INTRODUCTION
Those who take substances harmful to health regularly
are called addicted and the habit of taking these substances is known as addiction.
These substances harmful to health are named drugs. Alcohol, Heroin Cocaine,
Nicotine and Pain killers are some of the examples of drugs.
Drug
addiction is a great problem in the world. It is immensely increasing in our
society. It affects our young generation tremendously. It changes their
behaviour and damages their vital organs: such as the liver, kidneys, heart, Nerves
and throat.
The drug-addicted youth became unable to accomplish their goal. They fall into
hallucinations. They became moody and unable to converse correctly. Being
changed their behaviour they begin to steal, tell a lie and engage in illegal
activity. So they lose their social status. No one believes in them.
REASONS FOR
DRUG ADDICTION
There are so many causes of drug addiction. An
individual especially a youngster is greatly influenced by the people around him.
Peer pressure disturbs youngster lifestyle. When they fail to cope up with peer
pressure, they begin to consume drugs. Since drugs are able to release
dopamines that make one feel good. Due to this property, they start to take
more. After taking drugs regularly, they fall into trap of drugs and they
become drug-addicted.
Personal and family problems, having not a single friend, losing a job
or failure in the examination etc pressurize the young emotion. Lack of
confidence causes drug addiction in youngsters. Those who live in such an
area where drugs are easily available, develop the habit of consuming drugs.
EFFECTS OF
DRUG ADDICTION
Drug addiction creates numerous problems for the young
generation. Some of them are given as follows:
1.
Health-related Problems – Drug
addiction causes so many health-related problems. It affects the liver, heart,
throat, kidney and nervous system. It also affects mental cognition including
memory loss and speech problems. It develops anxiety, sleep disorder and blood
pressure.
2.
Economical Problem -- Drug addicted
youngsters require daily doses of drugs. For this region, they have to spend
sufficient money to buy it. They adopt illegal means to earn money when they
became bankrupt.
3.
Social Problem – Since they begin to
indulge in illegal activity, people started to hate them. They become isolated.
Their anti-social activities cause law and order problems. In other words, you
can say that they disturb social harmony.
PREVENTION OF
DRUG ADDICTION
First of all, youngsters must be self-confident. They will have to be learnt how to fight
with opposite circumstances. They must share their problem with family
members and friends. Those who have been suffering from mental disorders,
depression and stress, must be consulted by a psychiatrist immediately.
Family members and friends should be polite to drug-addicted people.
CONCLUSION
Drug addiction is a burning problem in our country. The young generation is ruining their lives. They are becoming bankrupt and indulging in anti-social activity. They are destroying their career and taking apart from the responsibility of their family. Therefore, it’s our duty to prevent this major problem. Our central government is taking action against the diabolic trafficking of drugs. Youth must be free from this trap of narcotics.
